FAQs

  • Who is BMS Group and what is their role?

BMS Group is the official and exclusive broker for the program and is located in Melbourne. The team is part of the Specialty Risk division of BMS Group, a Lloyd’s of London broker.

Their team of industry experts provide unparalleled risk management and brokerage services while offering a range of insurance products and resources to various Australian healthcare associations. BMS is the exclusive broker ASMIRT and provides cost effective and comprehensive protection available to members anywhere in Australia.

  • How will the broker change affect when I renew my insurance policy for 2017?

For the 2017 membership renewal, you will continue to be provided with comprehensive coverage automatically provided within your ASMIRT members. Your Professional Indemnity Insurance policy renewal will brokered by BMS Group. If desired, you will also be able to secure business coverage, including Commercial General Liability insurance and Clinic/Business Package insurance, through the new, member exclusive program.

  • Who is the Insurer and what is their role?

Effective 31/01/17 the Insurer for the ASMIRT Insurance Program is a leading Insurance Company within Lloyd’s of London.

  • What is Professional Indemnity Insurance?

Professional Indemnity insurance protects you against liability or allegations of liability for injury or damages that have resulted from a negligent act, error, omission, or malpractice that has arisen out of your professional capacity as a radiographer. Coverage is in place to pay for legal costs associated with your defence, including damages that may ensue.

  • I am on leave of absence from the profession. Do I need to carry Professional Liability Insurance?

The Professional Indemnity policy is issued on a "claims made" basis, meaning that the policy in place at the time that the claim is reported is the policy that will respond. If you are taking a leave of absence and do not maintain your Professional Indemnity Insurance, there will be no policy in place to respond to any potential claims, even if the incident occurred while you held coverage previously. Therefore, it is very important to continue policy coverage or place your policy in to run off if you choose to temporarily leave practice.

  • What do I do if my scope of practice changes midway through the policy year?

Please contact a program representative broker at BMS who can assist you and make any necessary changes to policy.

  • If I have a claim, will my information be shared with anyone?

Specific details such as your name and personal information will not be shared with any of the regulators or associations. Aggregate claims data will be used to develop risk management resources for the program.
